The computer is the interface between man and new technologies, so like a tennis player has to master the racket in order to control the ball trajectory, an individual has to master a computer in order to control new technologies. Fortunately, I'm part of the generation that grew up with computers, and so using such equipment is a habit like watching television or listening to music.
I was still in my early teens when I got my first computer, definitively the best Christmas gift ever. At first the computer was used only for playing games, but soon after I got into the hobby of playing with BASIC language and started writing my own software. A few years later the spectrum was obsolete and replaced by a faster and more versatile machine, the PC. Again I gladly went over the learning process of using a new machine, learning many concepts still valuable today.
Internet appeared soon after, and my main leisure use of the computer shifted to the continuous search of knowledge in this limitless source of information. At the university, I got acquainted with the use of the computer as a working tool, e.g., to create databases, run calculations, prepare presentations, write reports, etc. While living abroad, I intensively used the e-mail in order to establish and maintain a broad international network. More recently, I started e-shopping and more often I do it.
Presently, at my work, I use the computer daily to communicate with colleges and customers all over the world, to search for information both in local and internet based databases, to develop software and perform analysis. Obviously, it is also very useful in making efficient presentations, business-like reports, and keeping an agenda.
Professionally, I expect to be in the future as I was in the past and am at present, continuously updated on available techniques and always open to new "new technologies". Looking to the progression of my career, it seems that e-business is just a step away.
